Peugeot is one of the world's oldest auto manufacturers. In fact in 1884 Peugeot shared the first prize of the world's first auto race in France (the only place where roads were good enough). Le fils de Peugeot Freres shared the honor with Messrs Panhard and Levassor, both using a gasoline engine invented by Herr Daimler. Peugeot is still a major contender for highway space in most nations of the world outside the United States.
