The Lincoln Highway Association entered history on July 1, 1913 when Henry Joy, president of Packard, Carl G. Fisher and F.A. Seiberling finalized the Association with Henry Joy as president. This organization created the first coast-to-coast highway, produced maps, directories, and pioneered involvement in the building of good roads. It lost its voice in 1925 when the U.S. government numbered all the highways in an attempt to make sense out of the maze of named highways. The Lincoln Highway Association formally disbanded on December 31, 1927.
The LH Association was revived on October 31, 1992 by Gregory Franzwa in Ogden Iowa. The renewed Association is now dedicated to preserving the highway by signing up people at the grass roots level, thus creating a conscience for its rightful place, not only in history, but in the travel plans and pleasure of the vacation-bound public.
